How do all-metal lock nuts maintain locking torque?
DIN 980 nuts have a slightly deformed (oval or pinched) section at one end of the threads. As the nut is threaded onto a bolt, the deformed thread distorts elastically, generating constant friction along the engagement that resists vibration loosening.
