How much rod should engage on each end of a coupling nut?
For full strength, engage at least 1 × diameter on each end (so an M10 coupling nut needs 10 mm of rod engaged from each side). Most installation practice fully engages each end (1.5 × diameter), leaving little or no gap in the middle.
