Hex Thin Nut / Jam Nut
A hex thin nut, often called a jam nut, is approximately half the height of a standard hex nut. Two thin nuts can be used together — one tightened against the other — to lock a connection, or a single thin nut can fit into low-clearance assemblies.

Buyer Questions
Frequently asked questions
How does the double-nut (jam) locking technique work?
Tighten the inner (thin) nut to the work, then tighten the outer (full or thin) nut down on top of it. Hold the inner nut and tighten the outer further — this pulls the threads in the two nuts in opposite directions on the bolt, creating a self-locking action. The technique is mechanically sound but requires correct sequence and torque to be reliable.
