Buyer Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a rivet nut and a Riv-Nut/Nutsert?

These are all the same type of fastener — Rivnut and Nutsert are brand names that have become genericized. Generic terms include 'rivet nut', 'blind threaded insert', and 'threaded rivet'. They all install identically: insert through a hole, set with a tool, the back end deforms to create a permanent threaded boss.

How do I choose the correct grip range?

Each rivet nut model lists a grip range — for example, '0.5 – 3.0 mm material thickness'. Measure your panel thickness and select a rivet nut whose grip range covers it. If the material is too thick, the rivet nut will not fully set. If too thin, the deformed back end may not pull tight.
