Buyer Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why do deck screws need ACQ-compatible coatings?

Modern pressure-treated lumber uses ACQ (alkaline copper quaternary) preservatives instead of older CCA. ACQ is significantly more corrosive to metal fasteners than CCA was, so deck screws sold for treated lumber must have coatings rated to resist this corrosion. Standard zinc plating is not sufficient.
