Can stainless self-tapping screws drive into mild steel?
Yes, for thin sheet metal — stainless is hard enough to form threads in mild steel up to about 1.5 mm thickness. For thicker steel, the stainless screw will struggle and may break. For thicker steel use bi-metal self-drilling screws (carbon point + stainless body).
