Frequently Asked Questions
Can a stainless socket cap screw match Class 12.9 strength?
No. Austenitic stainless, even cold-worked to A4-80, has lower tensile strength than Class 12.9 carbon alloy steel. If both high strength and corrosion resistance are required, use a high-end carbon steel screw with a corrosion-protective coating (Geomet, Dacromet) or specify a duplex or precipitation-hardened stainless (which is much more expensive).
