Are stainless washers as strong as carbon steel washers?
Stainless flat washers (304/316) have somewhat lower tensile/shear strength than carbon steel, but for the load-distribution role of a flat washer this rarely matters. For F436 hardened structural washer applications, carbon steel hardened washers are generally specified — stainless equivalents exist but are less common.
