Stud Bolt, Double End

A double-end stud has threaded ends with a smooth midsection. One end (the 'tap end' or 'interference end') is permanently screwed into a tapped hole; the other end accepts a nut. Common in cast iron and aluminum housings where repeated bolt engagement would damage the parent thread.

Buyer Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why use a double-end stud instead of a hex bolt?

In castings (engine blocks, pump housings), repeated bolt removal damages the relatively soft parent thread. Installing a stud once and then removing only the nut preserves the parent thread. Studs also provide a more accurate clamping line in flange applications.
