Tap End Stud

Tap End Stud — Cast Iron & Aluminum Housings

A tap end stud has an interference (Class 5) fit on one end designed to be permanently installed in a cast iron or aluminum tapped hole, with a standard (Class 2A or 6g) thread on the nut end. Once installed, only the nut is removed for assembly access — preserving the relatively soft parent thread.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does aluminum require a longer tap engagement?

Aluminum has lower shear strength than steel or cast iron, so more thread engagement is needed to develop equivalent pullout strength. Standard practice is 2 × diameter engagement in aluminum, vs 1 × diameter in steel and 1.25 × diameter in cast iron.
